  1. Caleb,

Sounds like a great trip -- can't wait to hear what your favorite battlefields are. Gettysburg is super cool!

    Have fun,

  2. Caleb,

I’m looking forward to following along as you and you family make your way. I’m particularly interested in your Gettysburg bike tour; you should be able to cover a lot of ground and get a strong sense of what those couple of days might have been like 147 years ago. The National Battlefield is an awe-inspiring place, and given your interest in the historical period, you must thrilled to have the chance to experience it for yourself.

I hope you’ll write about where and what you eat as you travel. One of the joys of being far from home is experiencing regional foods and stumbling upon places that offer things we don’t have in Northeast Seattle.

If you’re a guy who likes a hamburger, see if you can talk your Dad into waiting in line at Ray’s in Alexandria (1725 Wilson Blvd.
Arlington, VA 22209
Phone: 703-841-0001). I understand that President Obama and Vice President Biden give it two thumbs up, and even though it might turn out to be just another burger joint, the food reviews are fantastic and I’m curious about the service, which has something of a reputation, so you’re my man on the ground (terrible pun).

And when you get to Virginia, you simply need a find a spot with Smithfield ham and biscuits on offer. I’ll bet you Dad knows a place or two from days gone by, so dig in and tell us about what you find.

Travel well, write lots, and enjoy your trip. We’ll see you at Crows when you get home later in the summer.

And finally, please ask the Nationals to quit beating up on our Mariners.

    Frank (Graham and George’s Dad)
